Hosanna - Palm Sunday

On the Sunday before the Sunday of Resurrection (Qyomto), the church commemorates the triuphant entry of Christ into Jerusalem on a colt. The service commences with a procession in the church with the clergy, dressed in their vestments, carrying olive and palm branches. Hence this Sunday is also known as Palm Sunday. The crowd especially the children welcomed him into Jerusalem by shouting 'Ushana' (Hoshanna) meaning 'Save Now' in Hebrew, in recognition of the Messiahship of Jesus. So this Sunday is also known as 'Ushana'. 'Ushana' is not only a cry for salvation, but at the same time is a declaration of praise.
